Road trips can be fun or road trips can be boring. For those with kids, you know you want to keep them entertained for as long as possible before they start throwing a fit. Here are three fun ideas to keep your kids entertained during those long drives.

The State License Plate Game

Items needed: writing pad, pen/pencil, printed white/black map of US states

This is a game mainly intended for kids but everyone is welcome to play. Depending on the age of your children, there are different ways you can play this game to make it more challenging. This game can help your children practice their geography, spelling, writing, and more.

The license plate game is very simple. Each passenger is given a writing pad and for every license plate they see with a new state they write it down. The person with the most states at the end of the trip wins. Again, as we mentioned, you can play this in different ways. You can have the 50 states pre-written and have them cross the states out once they see them, or you can have a map with the states on them (blank or written out) and have the players color each state.

The Alphabet/Categories Game

No items needed.

This is a fun game for everyone in the family. To play, you first choose a category (ex: foods). The first person says a food that starts with the letter A, the second person says a food that starts with the letter B, the third C, and so on. This keeps going on until someone cannot answer. To make the game easier for the little ones just learning their ABC’s, you don’t need to start off with a category.

I Spy

No items needed

This simple game is perfect for little kids and will keep them entertained for quite some time. You start out with the first person saying “I spy with my little eye, something (clue).” Then everyone gets to guess what the item is. The person who gives the correct answer is now the one who gets to give the clue.

Playing games with your kids during long road trips is a perfect family-bonding activity. Those who are interested in a new family vehicle should consider the 2017 Dodge Caravan. It’s kid-friendly and has room for up to seven passengers. Visit us at Larry H. Miller Dodge Ram Tucson for a test drive and to check out the vehicle in person.
